Tia Fuller

Five MARVELOUS STARS. On the enjoyable and impressive album, “Diamond Cut”, talented jazz composer, arranger, alto and soprano saxophonist, and Berklee educator, Tia Fuller, creates a wide range of engaging performances with her multitalented group. In the last few years, I have noticed her name is consistently listed among the stars of her instruments in the both the DownBeat Readers polls and International Critics polls. And deservedly so, since, she possesses a beautiful, luminous tone; stunning technique; and highly-imaginative ideas on both of her horns, while surrounding herself with master musicians in a very empathetic musical group settings. In particular, she is supported at times here by two Hall of Fame musicians: drummer Jack DeJohnette, plus double bassist Dave Holland who accompanies her on “Soul Eyes”. Also featured are the superb Bill Stewart on drum, the guitar stylings of Adam Rodgers, the elastic bass lines of James Genus, the talented Sam Yahel on Hammond B3 organ; and multiple Grammy-winner Terri Lyne Carrington, who also produced the session, appears on drums on “The Coming” and “Soul Eyes”.
