AMOR DE GENTE MOÇA + CANTA PARA GENTE MOÇA + AMOR EM HI-FI
One of the most highly regarded jazz samba and bossa nova singers of her time, Sylvia Telles (August 27, 1934 – December 17, 1966) was born in Rio de Janeiro. She had the ambition to be a ballet dancer, and studied with Madeleine Rosay at the Teatro Municipal’s corp de ballet in Rio, but she would also practice singing and playing the piano. Telles preceded the advent of bossa nova, and began covering songs by such influential composers as Antonio Carlos Jobim, while working with others such as Luiz Bonfá. One of the most famous classic bossa nova songs was written for her by Jobim, titled after her nickname, “Dindi” (two versions are heard on this release).
Presented here are two complete albums on which she sings a number of songs by Jobim: Amor de Gente Moça (Odeon MOFB 3084) and Amor em Hi-Fi (Philips PHCA 4201/ P.630.419 L), along with the 4 tunes from the EP Sylvia Telles Canta Para Gente Moça (Odeon BWB-1-074), which were taped during the same sessions that produced the former LP.
