The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery (Riverside RLP12-320) was the fourth album by the guitarist. Most of its tracks are considered to be the best examples of Wes’ two distinguishing techniques –”thumb picking” and the use of octaves. It features Montgomery in a quartet format with the wonderful rhythm section of Tommy Flanagan (with whom Wes would never record again), Percy Heath and Albert “Tootie” Heath. The album is considered by many to be the pinnacle of Wes’ recorded studio work. Four trio tracks and alternative versions of “D-Natural Blues” and “West Coast Blues” have been added as a bonus.
