This quintessential LP edition includes Ray Charles’ sensational fifth studio album, What’d I Say, originally released by Atlantic in October 1959, and long unavailable on vinyl. The album includes singles dating back as far as 1952, during Charles’ most inspired years (all of the material was produced by the legendary team of Ahmet Ertegün and Jerry Wexler). These recordings – several of them written by Charles himself – feature a virtual who’s who of fabulous musicians from the New York City scene, such as David “Fathead” Newman (tenor and alto saxophone), Bennie “Hank” Crawford (baritone saxophone), Joe Bridgewater or Marcus Belgrave (trumpet), Edgar Willis (bass), as well as The Raelettes on backing vocals.

In addition to the original masterpiece, this WaxTime collector’s item contains 2 bonus tracks from the same period: “Swanee River Rock,” and the passionate “Yes, Indeed!”
