This quintessential LP edition presents Wilson’s sensational second studio album, Lonely Teardrops, originally released by the Brunswick label in 1959, and long unavailable on vinyl. Produced/arranged by Dick Jacobs, the album contains outstanding recordings from the beginning of Jackie Wilson’s career. Highlights include gems like “Love Is All”, “Hush-A-Bye,” andthe rocking “You Better Know It,” which was co-written by Wilson. Lonely Teardrops also features some great songs by the Berry Gordy-Roquel Davis team (the latter also went by the pseudonym Tyran Carlo), such as Jackie’s hits “That’s Why (I Love You So),” “Each Time (I Love You More),” “Someone to Need Me (as I Need You),” and of course, the title track. (The latter song soared to number one on the Billboard R&B and became Wilson’s first top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100, eventually peaking at number seven.) The smash’s success helped land Wilson on American Bandstand and The Ed Sullivan Show, performing to receptive television audiences. All of these tracks are accompanied by a chorus or by female background vocals steeped in gospel.

In addition to the original masterpiece, this WaxTime collector’s item contains 2 bonus tracks from the same period: the soul number “The Way I Am,” plus the joyful “I’m Comin’ on Back to You.”
