This quintessential release includes the James Brown & His Famous Flames’ seminal studio album which has been long out of print: Tour the U.S.A. (1962), despite the title, this is not a live record although the set almost has the same feeling as some of the James Brown Show LPs. The LP features Brown and his band performing on half of the tracks, plus some instrumental pieces by other artists on the King label.
This masterpiece helped define the primal nature of soul and offer a solid introduction into this man’s special brand of musical feeling, his own passionate style, intense delivery and R&B innovation. This remastered collector’s edition also contains 2 bonus tracks from the same period, which weren’t included on the original album.
JAMES BROWN, lead vocals (and organ & drums on some tracks), plus:
The Famous Flames: Bobby Byrd (piano, organ & backing vocals),
Johnny Terry, Bill Hollings, Bobby Bennett, “Baby” Lloyd Stallworth (backing vocals).
Also featuring J.C. Davis, St. Clark Pinckney (ts), Alfred Corley (as),
Al “Brisco” Clark (bs), Rosco Patrick (tp), Bobby Roach (g),
Bernard Odum (b), Nat Kendrick (d).
Tracks 2, 4 & 6 of both sides are instrumental pieces featuring Brown on organ.
Recorded at King Studios, Cincinnati, Ohio, between 1960 and 1962.
