Antoine “Fats” Domino was the only rock & roll star to appeal to every generation from the moment his seminal “Ain’t It a Shame” crossed over to the pop side of the hit tracks in the summer of 1955. Unlike his wilder counterparts Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry, Fats’ nonthreatening style charmed cautious parents who frowned upon his lusty contemporaries. Domino’s cheerful, rolling boogie-woogie style and easygoing, cherubic vocals anchored a long series of smash hits. He would become the bestselling rhythm & blues artist of the 1950s and one of the most incredible hitmakers in American music history.

Long unavailable on vinyl, this quintessential collector’s edition contains Domino’s third LP, Rock and Rollin’ with Fats Domino (originally issued in 1956). Included here are iconic R&B hits such as “The Fat Man,” “All by Myself,” “Bo Weevil,” and “Ain’t It a Shame,” among others. “The Fat Man,” which drew heavily from a song titled “Junkers Blues,” became Domino’s first big rhythm and blues hit and is considered by many music industry observers to be the first genuine rock & roll song ever recorded. In addition to this sensational LP, we have included 4 bonus tracks from the same period.

This outstanding material represents the cream of the crop from Domino’s hitmaking stretch for the Imperial label during his most inspired years. All of these original gems –which have been brilliantly remastered to achieve the most pristine sound– are simple two-and-a-half-minute songs that feature a virtual who’s who of fabulous musicians from the Crescent City scene, including Lee Allen, Alvin Tyler, Joe Harris, Frank Fields and Earl Palmer. Fats’ music is just as enjoyable today as when it was first recorded. Its happy simplicity and its indomitable beat never get old.
