INCLUDES 4 BONUS TRACKS

This quintessential LP contains Ike & Tina’s debut album for Sue Records, The Soul of Ike and Tina Turner (1961). In addition, we have included 4 bonus tracks consisting of hard to find sides from the same period. Long unavailable on vinyl, this release constitutes the definitive edition of this soul treasure, and serves as the best introduction for anyone wanting to explore the Turners’ early years. Anna Mae and Ike became an item in 1959. Their partnership was sealed with the very first recording credited to Ike and Tina Turner: the classic single “A Fool in Love,” which charted on both the pop and R&B charts. The Soul of Ike and Tina Turner was recorded with the fabulous Ikettes while they were on tour with the revue. The album is comprised almost exclusively of Ike Turner compositions. R&B hits and bluesy ballads (“Chances Are”, “I Had a Notion”) are mixed with peppy loveydovey duets. All but three of the songs also appeared as singles. The exclusive tracks for the LP edition were “If”, “You Can't Love Two” and “I Had a Notion”. The album included the follow-up singles “I Idolize You” and “I'm Jealous”, with the latter tune’s flipside “You're My Baby” featuring The Ikettes harmonizing in the background. Their dark voices match Tina’s lusty screams note for note, while Ike's guitar/piano and chunky, recognizable sound are pure joy.
