LIMITED EDITION OF 500 LPS

For the first time ever on vinyl, Dot-Time presents LIVE IN FRANCE, a new LP full of rare and magic Louis Armstrong 1948 performances remastered from the original sources provided by the Louis Armstrong House Museum. This album features the original All Stars, with Satchmo on trumpet and vocals, Jack Teagarden on trombone, Barney Bigard on clarinet, the great Earl Hines on piano, Arvell Shaw on bass, Sidney Catlett on drums, and Velma Middleton adding vocals on a few tracks. All of the material was recorded in Nice, France, during the Jazz Festival that took place in that city in February of 1948. The group is in fine form, but Louis and Earl excel above the rest, swinging throughout the whole album, and even rendering an astonishing duet on "Dear Old Southland". Sound quality is good taking into consideration that the original shows were recorded on acetates, so a tiny surface noise is to be heard, but it doesn't affect the enjoyment of this wonderful music. The LP includes newly written liner notes by Louis Armstrong's Museum curator and researcher Ricky Riccardi.
