NOW'S THE TIME (Bird's Nest 840106) compiles two of Charlie Parker’s best studio quartet dates, both made for Norman Granz's Verve label. Both are spectacular sessions, full of intricate originals by Bird, complemented by two beautiful readings of the standards “The Song Is You” and “I Remember You”. The original tunes include a reworking of his blues "Now's the Time", which he had originally recorded for Savoy, as well as his only studio recording of the magnificent "Confirmation". Several alternative takes are present on this LP, due to the fact that the 12" version of Now's the Time appeared after Parker's untimely death (both sessions had been issued first on 10" albums), and since then every preserved note by the sax master seemed (and seems) worth of being heard. To the tracks originally issued on the Verve LP, this edition adds 4 bonus tracks, consisting on further quartet studio sides made by Bird for Verve during the same period.
