The Coasters are arguably one of the top five R&B vocal groups of all time, and one of the few bands in rock & roll history to successfully straddle the line between music and comedy. That engaging and infectious combination made them one of the most popular early R&B/rock & roll acts, as well as one of the most consistently entertaining vocal groups ever. This release features the first two Coasters LPs, which were released on Atlantic’s subsidiary label ATCO: The Coasters (1958) and One By One (1960). These two essential albums have been packaged together in this very special collector’s edition, which also includes 3 bonus tracks from the same period. All of these sensational recordings – most of them penned by the legendary team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller – were propelled by the strong performances of the vocalharmony quintet, often with funny recurring lines produced/repeated by the bass voice, and fairly simple arrangements that relied heavily on strong rhythms and honkin’ saxes. There's no better proof of The Coasters’ talents than these funny, energetic and wonderfully remastered recordings.

“If rock & roll had produced nothing but The Coasters and Leiber and Stoller, it would still have commanded attention as the sound embodiment of a time and generation.” - Arnold Shaw (author of the book The Rockin’ 50s)
“This is still a fun record in the extreme, with enough variety in its sound and production to make it one of the most entertaining R&B vocal harmony records of its period.” - Bruce Eder
