The Jef Gilson, Malagsy albums were meetings between generations and cultures - the younger Madagascan group Malagsy hooking up with French jazz veteran Jef Gilson. But it worked and 'Malagasy at Newport-Paris' mixes jazz, traditional Madagascan music and funk to result in a wild and free take on avant jazz and bebop.
