Discmedi present an unreleased recording of the Leandro “Gato” Barbieri quartet made during a presentation at the mythical Club Jamaica in Buenos Aires in November 1961, months before his departure to Brazil and then to Europe.

Although these recordings were not made professionally, they have been processed and mastered and constitute a historical document since there is no other recording of Gato Barbieri as a band leader from that time.

At Club Jamaica, located on San Martín and Viamonte, the most important exponents of jazz and tango of the time performed, alternating in sets that began in the afternoon and ended at dawn, often with jam sessions included..

Accompanied by Rubén “Baby” López Furst, Jorge “Negro” González  and Tony Harris , Gato covers a repertoire of six themes: two by John Coltrane ('Impressions' and 'Village Blues'), the classic by Thelonius Monk 'Round Midnight' , one by Cole Porter ('What is this thing called love?'), 'My shining hour' by Johnny Mercer and Harold Arlen and 'You say you care' by Jule Stein and Leo Robbins.
