2 LPs ON 1 CD
Two outstanding consecutive albums in their entirety presenting Milt Jackson in the company of amazing jazz stars!
This CD contains two consecutive albums by Milt Jackson (also known as “Bags”) recorded within a period of less than six months. Jackson is joined by an all-star rhythm section on both LPs, including Tommy Flanagan on piano and Connie Kay on drums (Eddie Jones and Paul Chambers alternate on bass, and Kenny Burrell is added on guitar on the first LP only). Both albums also feature super star soloists joining Bags on vibes. The first of the two albums, Bean Bags, pairs Jackson with Coleman Hawkins. Both participated on a session under the saxophonist’s name in December 1946, in which Fats Navarro, J.J. Johnson, Hank Jones and Max Roach were also present. However, they wouldn’t record together again until the making of this album, and they would never record together again after that.
4 STARS DOWNBEAT (BEAN BAGS)
“This album shows how tired material can be transformed by two masters and four above-average jazzmen into something interesting. The transformation is in the result of sheer excellence of improvisation.” (Don DeMichael)
