Mel Tormé Sings Shubert Alley & Back in Town
The two albums compiled on this CD provide the only existing testimony of singer/drummer Mel Tormé (1925-1999) accompanied by the great Art Pepper (1925-1982). The combination is sublime, for Pepper’s sound seems to fit particularly well behind Tormé’s voice. The other important collaboration on these sessions is the one between Tormé and celebrated arranger Marty Paich (1925-1995). However, these are by no means their only works together as the collaborated many times.
