This edition presents two complete original albums by Jimmy Heath (at the age of 85 he is one of jazz’s greatest living legends) in a sextet format: The Thumper (Riverside RLP12-314) - his first LP as a leader - and The Quota (Riverside RLP372). The saxophonist’s brother Albert “Tootie” Heath is featured on drums on both LPs. Although the other musicians change from album to album, they are all true stars, including the likes of Nat Adderley, Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Julius Watkins, Wynton Kelly, Cedar Walton, Paul Chambers, and, on the second LP, the third Heath brother, bassist Percy Heath.
