"When Tempo began its life in 1946, its prime purpose was to make available rare Jazz and Blues to a war-staved British audience. It was not until 1955 that Tempo began issuing its own Modern Jazz recordings. Much of this output was devoted to British Modern Jazz, recorded at Decca's West Hampstead studio. Jasmine is in the final stages of reissuing all of the Tempo recordings augmented by some compatible non-Tempo sessions. Listening to the majority of the Tempo output it is not too far out to think of the label as essentially the 'Blue Note' of British Jazz."
