The complete LP: "Ruby Braff Special"
This reissue compiles all the duet sessions made by Ruby Braff and Ellis Larkins in 1955. These recordings became jazz classics and were originally released on three albums. One of the great critics of the period, Whitney Balliett, wrote in the "Saturday Review": "For sheer inspiration and first-rate creativity, these should find a permanent place among the greater efforts of recorded jazz."
BONUS TRACKS: This releases includes another LP recorded the same year by the trumpeter: "Ruby Braff Special", accompanied by Vic Dickenson, trombone, Sam Margolis, tenor saxophone and clarinet, Nat Pierce, piano, and the two Count Basie rhythm stalwarts Walter Page and Jo Jones.
The material that Braff selected for these sessions is well varied, ranging from such great standards (including two numbers from Walt Disney films), and three Braff originals!
Total time: 79:38 mins. + 79:57 mins.
