Perhaps the second best Miles Davis Quintet of all time (if compared to the unit with John Coltrane, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb), the group present in these two European concerts, which marked the transition between acoustic and electric Miles, had been together only a year before embarking on a full European tour in 1967.
The Miles Davis Quintet played several shows around Europe in late October-early November 1967 as part of the "Newport Jazz Festival in Europe", produced by George Wein, sharing the stage with Thelonious Monk, Archie Shepp, Gary Burton, Sarah Vaughan and Bob James, among others. These are the only Miles Davis Quintet performances that were filmed during this tour and appear here for the first time on DVD.
