An absolutely indispensable live recording made at the 1989 Leverkusen Jazz Festival when an illustrious group of former Jazz Messengers gathered to pay tribute to Art Blakey on the occasion of his 70th birthday. This historic album, which features some of the most memorable of the Messengers’ themes, is a must for all Blakey enthusiasts. The recording includes the first performance of 'Mr Blakey', a song specially written for the occasion by Horace Silver, one of the founders of the Jazz Messengers.
