This release contains two complete long unavailable concerts by the classic John Coltrane Quartet in France. Included are the only existing versions of Ascension apart from the celebraded studio recording with Pharoah Sanders and Archie Shepp. These unique live performances are in a quartet format and allow us to appreciate the tune's melody in a way that was impossible in the overcrowded free jazz oriented studio take.
