This release presents all existing recordings by the quintet of tenor men Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis and Johnny Griffin with Junior Mance at the piano. Bassist Larry Gales and drummer Ben Riley completed the rhythm section of all of these sessions (both of whom would join the Thelonious Monk Quartet a few years later for an extended period). The music contained here was originally included on eight different LP’s, and two tunes from the Minton’s sessions appear here on CD for the first time ever.
