This release presents Benny Goodman’s complete long unavailable 1955 album Date with the King (Columbia CL2572), combining the talents of the Benny Goodman Sextet and singer Rosemary Clooney, in her only existing session with the clarinetist. Also contains the complete LP Mr. Benny Goodman –The Benny Goodman Story (Capitol SM-706), recorded during the same week as the previous album, and featuring both Goodman’s big band and his quintet featuring Lionel Hampton. Seven extra tracks from the same dates (including a rarely heard reading of “I Got Rhythm” that completes the quintet session) have been added here as a bonus.
