This CD edition, complemented the two LPs, which were recorded in the studio by Oscar Pettiford’s orchestra –fulfilling a wish which had accompanied Oscar throughout his ill-fated career– with three different versions of tracks from the albums recorded live at the famous Birdland club in New York. These three tracks act here as a kind of alternate takes, allowing us to appreciate the work of the orchestra during its performances before an audience, and to compare it with the more precise elaboration achieved in the studio. This excellent jazz, full of swing, makes it regrettable that finacial problems caused the downfall of the band, which was made up of some of the top soloists of modern jazz.
