2016 marks Madeleine Peyroux twentieth anniversary as a recording artist with the release of "Secular Hymns", a spirited and soulful masterwork of loping, skipping, sassy, feisty and sexy tunes delivered in a captivating melange of funk, blues and jazz.
There’s an immaculate simplicity and an intimate exuberance about the way Madeleine Peyroux, with her dusky, lyrical style, and her two accompanists treat these 10 classic songs.
The whole music was recorded in one day at St Mary’s Church, Great Milton, Oxfordshire, whose generous acoustic provides the distinctive atmosphere (hence the title). The album is very close to the feel of a Peyroux live show, and one in which she’s clearly having a ball.
