The great Jimmy Smith and alto sax master Lou Donaldson collaborated on various projects in the late 1950s and early 1960s. This 2-CD edition compiles –for the first time on a single set– all of the wonderful recordings they taped in studio conditions presenting Donaldson as the only horn. They consist mostly of quartets, with a couple of amazing duets and “Big” John Patton added on tambourine to the quartet on a few sides. As a bonus, we have included three selections by the Jimmy Smith Trio that complete two of the sessions included here.
