FOR THE FIRST TIME ON CD
Barron is known for playing lengthy (yet never overly long) numbers in front of audiences; this evening is no exception, as the tunes average around 14 minutes each. Barron's up-tempo cooker "And Then Again" scales back in its intensity only for Williams' tasty bass solo, while the popular samba "Manha de Carnaval" and pretty ballad "Someday My Prince Will Come" can stand up well against better known jazz arrangements. But it is the trio's romp through Thelonious Monk's "Rhythm-A-Ning" that is the high point of the performance. Although this CD is somewhat hard to find, fans of the amazing Kenny Barron should make every effort to acquire it. - Ken Dryden, All Music Guide
