Wes Montgomery (1925- 1968) was one of the most revered guitarists in jazz history. "The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery" marked his third album as a leader – following "Montgomeryland" (1958) and "The Wes Montgomery Trio" (1959).

"The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery"  was highly praised as soon as it was released. It received a five-star rating in Down Beat magazine. In recent years, it received the same maximum rating in All Music Guide. Some of the tunes from this album, like “Four on Six”, “D-Natural Blues”, and the celebrated “West Coast Blues”, became landmarks in jazz guitar and remained in Wes’ repertoire for many years.
