This CD contains the original Charles Mingus LP Mingus Dynasty (Columbia CS8236) in its entirety. The result of two long sessions, it featured the leader along with such outstanding musicians as Jimmy Knepper, John Handy, Booker Ervin, Benny Golson, Roland Hanna, and Dannie Richmond. The album’s songs, which had been shortened to fit the LP format, are presented here unedited. In addition, this release includes the tune “Strollin’”, which was absent from the album, plus three alternate takes that complete the sessions.
