This essential release presents two of Johnson’s finest studio albums for Prestige’s Bluesville label during his early- ’60s comeback: the great Blues by Lonnie Johnson (1960), and the equally magnificent Losing Game (1961). Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder at his studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, both LPs display greater sensitivity and maturity than the seminal masterpieces Johnson cut between the 1920s and the 1940s. These two sensational albums have been remastered and packaged together in this special collector’s edition, which also contains a bonus track from the same period, an excellent version of W.C.Handy’s “St. Louis Blues”.
