This special collector’s edition compiles Richard’s two first and finest albums: "Here’s Little Richard" (1957) and "Little Richard" (1958). Both LPs contain the cream of the crop from Richard’s hitmaking stretch for the Specialty label during his most inspired years. In addition, this release includes 8 bonus tracks consisting of hard to find sides from the same period. On Richard’s raucous early singles such as “Ready Teddy”, “Slippin’ and Slidin’”, “Jenny Jenny”, “Rip It Up”, and “Long Tall Sally” his boogiewoogie piano and falsetto scream ignited the unfettered possibilities of rock & roll. “Tutti Frutti” still has the most inspired rock lyric on record: “A wop bop alu bop, a wop bam boom!”
The sheer exuberance, ferocious urgency, and joyous passion of all of the singer’s moans, screams, yelps, shouts, whoops, and impromptu interjections come alive with high-voltage detail and colorful immediacy. Richard’s vocal outbursts and visceral piano notes swing in time with the jumping rhythms, funky saxophone lines, and jaunty percussion like never before.
