This special release presents one of Johnny Hallyday’s most iconic albums from his early career: the great Viens danser le twist. Originally issued as a 10” record by the Philips label in September 1961, the LP contains a repertoire of covers and French adaptations of rock & roll and twist smashes of that era, as well as some of Johnny Hallyday’s finest moments during his seminal years – when he gained fame as France’s answer to Elvis Presley and the other fabulous rock legends of the ‘50s.

In addition to the original album, this WaxTime collector’s edition contains 4 bonus tracks, which were cut during the same recording period. The bonus material consists of splendid twist numbers like the self-penned “La faute au twist” and “Wap-dou-wap (tu aimes le twist)”, plus “Danse le twist avec moi” (previously popularized by Chubby Checker as “Dance the Mess Around”), and the joyous “Twistin’ U.S.A.”. A versatile vocalist, Hallyday’s inviting style lent itself to edgy rock & roll, danceable twist and romantic ballads. This is an essential set for listeners who want to hear the early sounds of Johnny Hallyday.
