This collector’s LP edition includes The Beach Boys’ debut album, Surfin’ Safari, which was originally issued by Capitol Records in October 1962. Here you canfind the group’s first regional hit, “Surfin’”, plus a string of chart-topping songs, such as “409”, “Surfin’ Safari”, and “Ten Little Indians”, among others. This is the material upon which The Beach Boys’ legacy was built.

Although their finest recordings would come later, this first effort from The Beach Boys is full of youthful charm. Brian Wilson reportedly produced the album despite Nick Venet’s official credit. Though Mike Love and Brian Wilson are the most prominent singers and songwriters, drummer Dennis Wilson made his first lead vocal appearance on “Little Girl (You’re My Miss America)”. Other favorites include the sound-effects laden “County Fair”, and the simple, yet catchy “Heads You Win – Tails I Lose”.

Surfin’ Safari wasn’t released in the U.K. until April 1963, and failed to chart. This WaxTime releasepresents the original mono version of the album. As a bonus, this LP includes The Beach Boys’ first B-side, “Luau”, which was originally produced by Hite Morgan and released on the small Candix label.
