This essential release includes two of Chet Atkins’ most popular albums from the peak of his career: his best-selling LP to date, Chet Atkins’ Workshop, and his highly-underrated record, The Most Popular Guitar. Both albums were originally issued in 1961, and have been long unavailable on CD. They are full of jazz-influenced pop instrumentals with very little country flavor. In addition, this remastered collector’s release contains 5 bonus tracks from the same period.
The former LP combines Atkins’ intricate playing style with the blossoming studio technology of the ‘60s, and features some of the most highly-regarded musicians from the Nashville scene, such as guitarist Velma Smith, bassist Bob Moore, pianist Floyd Cramer, and drummer Buddy Harman, Jr. It also reflects the diversity of Chet’s repertoire and his flair for experimentation.
Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, between 1960 and 1961.
