Roy Ayers

A much-needed reissue of the great vibist's debut album from 1963. Years before he took the groove train to jazz-funk station (somebody stop me!), he played a kind of cool brand of modal jazz with soul-jazz overtones, and this is a very strong start for someone who'd really make their mark a decade later. Nice!
