Piero Umiliani

Rovi is one of the many names of Piero Umiliani: perhaps he wanted to go anonymous on this one because Due Temi con Variazoni, the Luigi Scattini film that this music originally soundtracked, is basically pornography a la Mondo. Of course, Umiliani can make that work no problem, supplying fifteen tracks of funky jazzy action sure to satisfy any listener. LP reissue as part of the the Schema SCEB Series

• SIDE A
• A1. BLUE THEME
• The melody is performed by the trumpet and by the tenor sax, with a rhythmical jazz accompaniment. It is not a dramatic theme, but with a certain tension.
• A2. BLUE PRELUDE
• The above theme, performed by the tenor-sax and by the trumpet, at a more slow time, in a blues style.
• A3. BLUE PIANO
• On a kind of time similar to the above performance, the piano performs the melody together with the bass and the percussion.
• A4. BLUE TRUMPET
• Rarefied performance (with a Miles Davis style) of the mute trumpet, without the rhythmical section. After about one and a half minute the rhythm starts, with tenor-sax. in background.
• A5. BLUE BASS
• The acoustic bass plays the theme. Percussions with cymbal.
• A6. BLUE SAX
• The tenor-sax plays the theme, without accompaniment. (description of desert places: night, fog)
• A7. BLUE GUITAR
• Solo of guitar with an aggressive, modern sound. Ten-sion and dramatic feeling.

• B1. EASY THEME
• During the first minute, the theme is played by trum-pet and tenor-sax, without rhythmical section. Then after, with piano, bass and drums, at a moderate time. Melodic and lyrical phrase.
• B2. EASY PRELUDE
• Performance like the above: the tenor sax plays the theme without rhythmical accompaniment. After, the trumpet starts softly. Then the piano starts. Sweet atmosphere, but with a solid rhythmical support.
• B3. EASY PIANO
• The piano plays a solo on a very sostenuto jazz-rock rhythm, performed by bass and drums.
• B4. EASY ORGAN
• Performance of the organ with an accompaniment in a « Bacharach » style. Description of fashionable, pleasant and relaxing places.
• B5. EASY GUITAR
• The guitar plays the theme in a very sweet way, only with armonic accompaniment of hammond organ.
• B6. EASY INTERLUDE
• Joyous and lighthearted solo of the organ, with accom-paniment in 6/8 time.
• B7. EASY RHYTHM
• Rhythmical tension, suspence, action. Ostinato of the bass, which performs again the thematic cell. Breaks of hammond and moog, with background of strings in tremolo. Excited rhythm on cymbal.
• B8. EASY BALLAD
• The melody is played by moog and hammond organ, with an accompaniment in « bailata ›› style. Pleasant, sweet, quite country atmosphere'.
