He crafted exciting pop-rockabilly hybrids with ace session players while projecting an archetype of the sensitive, reticent young adult with his accomplished vocals. This quintessential collector’s edition includes two of Nelson’s finest albums, Rick Is 21 (1961) and More Songs by Ricky (1960), both of which were recorded for the Imperial label during his most inspired years. His records were so great that they became hits in Europe and elsewhere in the world. Both masterpieces have been packaged together in this very special release, which also includes 6 bonus tracks from the same period. These splendid recordings feature a virtual who’s who of great sidemen including impressive guitar legend James Burton, legendary West Coast saxophonists Teddy Edwards and Plas Johnson, and Elvis’ original backing group, The Jordanaires, among others. Without a doubt, this is the material upon which Rick Nelson’s celebrated career was built.
