Chicago native Jerry Butler is one of the biggest stars in soul music, a creative collaborator to icons including Curtis Mayfield and Otis Redding. Along with Sam Cooke and Clyde McPhatter, Butler fused gospel and rhythm & blues to create SOUL. His dignified carriage and unflappable demeanor are what earned him the nickname “The Iceman”.
This quintessential collector’s edition includes his first two original LPs: Jerry Butler, Esq. (1959) and He Will Break Your Heart (1960), both originally released by the Vee-Jay label. These two soul masterpieces have been packaged together in this very special release, which also includes 5 bonus tracks from the same period. These songs represent the cream of the crop from Butler’s hitmaking stretch for Vee-Jay records during his most inspired years. This CD boasts 29 of his Vee-Jay and Abner/Falcon singles, including 7 hits with The Impressions (such as For Your Precious Love and Sweet Was The Wine).
