Alanis Morissette

Canadian singer and songwriter Alanis Morissette became a world-wide sensation at age 21 with her 1995 alt-rock and post-grunge pop album “Jagged Little Pill.” With such hit singles as “You Oughta Know,” “Hand in My Pocket,” “Ironic,” “You Learn” and “Head Over Feet,” it became one of the bestselling records of all time and won five Grammy awards, including album of the year.

Morissette’s gritty and confessional songs were often an unflinching look at the frustrations of relationships and female anger and aggression. No one else could really render the spectrum of love and bitterness the way she could, and the songs stuck in your head. It was cathartic listening to Morissette rage and reflect, and you could even dance to it.
