Detroit jazz trumpeting great Donald Byrd moved to New York in the 1950s and went on to come one of the most constantly high performing stars of his era. His rounded, rich, brassy tone is utterly unique no matte who he plays with, where or when. His showmanship was also second to none and that shines through here on a special recording which was broadcast by WBCN-FM in full when Byrd appeared with The Blackbyrds at the Jazz Workshop in Boston on September 4th, 1973.
