However, it is released because of the importance of the musicians involved and of its high musical and historical value. Every effort has been made to improve the sound quality through advanced restoration technologies.
This amazing 3-CD set presents a complete never before released live performance by the great John Coltrane recorded at Chicago’s Sutherland Hotel the peak of his creativity, in between his last sessions for Atlantic and his first for Impulse. Among the many highlights included here are: a spectacular 10-minute version of Bye Bye Blackbird on which Trane is the only soloist; readings of tunes rarely recorded by Trane, like Gershwin’s Summertime, Miles Davis’ Vierd Blues (this is the only live version of this tune by Coltrane), and his own Liberia, plus a 20-minute long Blue Train. This set also includes the earliest existing versions by the saxophonist of Greensleeves and Impressions, both of which precede the studio recordings
