The Montreux Summit albums were originally issued as a pair of two record sets on Columbia Records in 1977 and 1978. These albums capture what was probably the most notorious contemporary jazz jam session of all time. The list of participants in this concert reads like a who's who of jazz: Maynard Ferguson, Hubert Laws, Bob James, George Duke, Billy Cobham, Steve Khan, Eric Gale, Stan Getz, Woody Shaw, Alphonso Johnson, Dexter Gordon, Benny Golson and many more. The concert took place in 1977 at the Montreux Festival in Switzerland.
