This new release contains the complete ABC-Paramount LP "The New Billy Taylor Trio" and Billy Taylor's complete trio recordings from the Atlantic LP "The Billy Taylor Touch".

This 1956-1958 trio with Earl May and Ed Thigpen was one of the most consistently excellent and often underrated piano-bass-drum trios of the period. Upon leaving Taylor's trio at the end of 1958, Ed Thigpen went on to join Oscar Peterson's trio with Ray Brown, which is still widely regarded as one of the finest piano trios in the history of the idiom. The music featured here in easily of the same calibre.
