Although it might seem hard to believe today, the musical career of Frank Sinatra appeared to be coming to a close in 1952. That was the impression held by both the general public and the record producers.
However, his participation on the film From Here to Eternity opened a new path for his career. Shortly after the movie’s release, he was offered a new recording contract. Ending a longtime musical relationship with Alex Stordahl "who was responsible for most of his previous orchestrations" Frank chose to try his luck with another celebrated composer and arranger: Nelson Riddle. This decision proved wise, as Riddle’s arrangements gave the singer’s music a more modern approach. From Here to Eternity was nominated for 12 Oscars and won eight. One of the eight Oscars won by From Here to Eternity was, of course, for Frank as best supporting actor. His smiling figure was seen by millions of people on TV when he received the award.
This compilation brings together many of Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits from this period in his life in which his career, after some years of obscurity, took a new turn that would turn him into an undisputed legend.
