Paying homage to Chico’s past, It’s About Time! revisits his first ever recordingproject as band leader/percussionist. In 1955, Chico recorded a trio albumfor Pacific Jazz with George Duvivier and Howard Roberts; fast-forward 53 years, and Chico has recasted it with his long time collaborators Cary DeNigrison guitar and Paul Ramsey on bass. According to Chico, both recordings emphasize the rhythm section as the leadinstruments. The trio is tight and clear and never fatigues. This album is about time, on many levels: Going back in time to pick up an original concept; a time to realize that if music is good once, it will be good twice; and a time to understand that music and heart can fit together like “two peas in a pod.” Or, in this case, three .
