Swing-era big-band trombonist, arranger, composer, and bandleader, Glenn Miller (1904-1944) was the best-selling recording artist from 1939 to 1943, leading one of the best-known big bands, celebrated in both sides of the Atlantic. In just four years, Miller scored 23 number-one hits, more than Elvis Presley (18 No. 1s, 38 top 10s) and The Beatles (20 No. 1s, 33 top 10s) did in their careers.

His sudden death at age 40 also contributed to his legendary status. While traveling to entertain U.S. troops in France during World War II, Capt. Glenn Miller’s aircraft disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel. His plane departed from RAF Twinwood Farm in Clapham, on the outskirts of Bedford and disappeared while flying over the English Channel.

Miller’s greatest hits include “In the Mood,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “A String of Pearls,” “(I’ve Got a Gal in) Kalamazoo,” “American Patrol,” “Tuxedo Junction,” and “Little Brown Jug,” all of which are present on this LP.
