Jaman were a eight-piece jazz band led by keyboardist James Edward Emanuel from Buffalo, New York. He got the name for the band by removing most of the letters from his name and squashing the remaining five together. Sweet Heritage was originally released in 1974. It was his only album, and it was released in such a small number that it has become much sought after. Despite having only one album, Emanuel was a big noise in the live jazz scene, often sharing stages with the likes of Big Joe Turner, Muddy Waters, Joe Henderson, Ruth Brown, Frank Morgan, Woody Shaw and Sonny Stitt
