One of the most beloved girl groups in pop music, The Crystals changed the sound of the genre in the early 1960s, thanks largely to the unique production work of Phil Spector. Backed by a full-scale, resonant sound, the cheerful yet bittersweet harmonies of The Crystals belied the fact that they were also highly innovative. They combined a number of different musical genres, including R&B, soul, teen idol pop, and doo-wop, with Spector’s unique backgrounds. This quintessential release presents The Crystals’ sensational debut album, Twist Uptown, which was originally issued on the Philles label in 1962. It has beenremastered for this collector’s edition, which also includes 6 bonus tracks from the same period. This is the material upon which both Phil Spector and The Crystals’ legacy was built.
