This collector’s edition presents one of Cookes’ most underrated LPs, I Thank God, which was originally released by the Keen label in 1960 , and has been long unavailable on CD.T he album is a compilation featuring four of Sam Cookes’ finest spirituals and gospel songs, as well as four tunes by the The Five Blind Boys of Alabama (credited as The Original Blind Boys), and four others by the female singing group The Gospel Harmonettes. In addition to the original long play, this remastered package also includes 8 bonus tracks, consisting of gospel tunes recorded by Sam Cooke during the same period, either as a solo artist or with The Soul Stirrers. These are superb tunes from one of the pioneers and most important singers of gospel-soul music.
