Total time: 77.35 mins

The collaboration between tenor saxophonist John Coltrane and pianist Cecil Taylor was limited to one sole New York studio session, recorded on October 13, 1958 as a quintet led by Taylor. The band also featured Kenny Dorham, Chuck Israels, and Louis Hayes. Coltrane and Taylor can be heard here on top form. Coltrane had just finished his last gig with Monk at the Five Spot and was at ease playing over the complex harmonic voicings of Cecil Taylor. This release also contains six cuts from Taylor's very first recording, a 1956 studio date included here as bonus tracks. Four of the tracks were recorded in a trio setting while two tracks feature Taylor's first recorded collaboration with Steve Lacy.
